90+ Years of Success
In 1932 a radical new idea escaped the oppressive regime of Nazi Germany, leading its discoverer to unravel the complex understanding of human values. With new insight into a person’s character, cognitive algorithms were developed to assess 47 values-based attributes. Over a span of 50+ years, those algorithms led to millions of assessments in dozens of industries. In 2020, another discovery was made using the same values algorithms to identify people “at risk” with mental health needs. Today, customers use Vizeon for a reliable and validated assessment of personal character, capacity for success, and life-work balance.
Dr. Hartman Flees Wartime Germany with a Genius Idea
Dr. Robert Hartman brought a new idea to America in 1941. Values matter—a point he made frequently in his escape from the fascism of Nazi Germany. Dr. Hartman was the original theorist in axiology, the study of Human Values used to measure the character of an individual. His development of the Hartman Value Profile (HVP) was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Human Understanding in 1973.
Magic Happens Here: The Birth of Cognitive Assessment
As a Professor at MIT, Yale, the University of Tennessee, and the National University of Mexico, Dr. Hartman served as a research professor of philosophy and axiology. Using his research into the three foundational drivers of human value—extrinsic, intrinsic, and systemic (strategic) influences—he refined the Hartman Value Profile for practical applications in commercial industry at AT&T, General Foods, General Electric, and IBM.
Putting Science Into Action: For a Better World to Come
Dr. Steve Byrum, a student and protégé of Dr. Hartman, carried on the refinement of his mentor’s life work with the “Byrum Method” of the Hartman Value Profile (HVP). His updated algorithms and analyses helped individuals to understand what they value, and how they make decisions, choices, and judgments based on their personal value system. His work, used around the world today and fundamental to the commercial tool Judgment Index™, measures a person’s capacity to value the world and one’s self.
Changing the World Today
Synovix partnered with Dr. Byrum and Judgment Index™ in 2018 to adapt the HVP to Federal government applications. In 2020, this partnership was branded as “Vizeon,” a paraphrase of the Spanish word for “insight.” The partnership led to the discovery of a correlation between human values and characteristics of “at risk” employees, including those with the capacity to harm themselves or others. Today, the Vizeon is used to identify future leaders, select candidates for dangerous law enforcement roles, assess the capacity for insider threat in an organization, and to assist persons at risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
